Once upon a time, the late great Marc Laurick invited me to provide a track for a compilation he was working on for his China Sea Recordings Concern label. His idea was to transition his label from showcasing folk music and "art pop" into more of an instrumental minimalism sort of thing.
I'd always wanted to prove to the world that I could be a "serious" musician, so I readily accepted the opportunity.
Marc's criteria were: It has to be minimalist. It must be instrumental (no vocals). And it must clock in over the 12 minute mark.
This is the track I provided. It is not instrumental (there are quite a lot of vocals). It is not minimalist (there are three movements, and a large number of instruments). And it doesn't come close to the 12 minute mark.
Luckily, Marc liked the song, and included it anyway.
It is a beautiful compilation, and a testament to Marc's artistic vision. I feel privileged to have been a part of it, and I don't mind saying I think my track fits nicely in the mix, despite falling short of the agenda.
